CASIO WATCH MOD
--

Today I wanted to show you something different that I've been working on. It's a project which adds a bunch more featues to a classic Casio watch.

I know this isn't really inkeeping with the rest of the content on the site, so I won't be making a habit of this kind of video, but I think you might like this.

MODIFICATIONS

So this mod is based on the famous Casio F-91W digital watch, which is one of the most popular wristwatches in the world.

The standard face has been removed, and, replaced with a simple black design.

I went with the letterbox design instead of a rectangle, firstly because I like the aesthetics of showing some of the watch innards, but also because it exposes the LED.

And speaking of this LED, I swapped out the standard green one, for a brighter white LED. It's inkeeping with the monochrome design, and it's also bright enough to use as a little torch to find your keys or something in the dark.

I've also added an NFC chip into the body of the watch. It's an NTAG213 chip, with 137 Bytes of usable storage.

I actually didn't think this would work due to interference from the metal parts, but it does, you just have to scan the sweet spot, just above the screen.

Finally, I've added a micro SD card socket to the backplate of the watch, making it easy carry important data with you.

It sticks out a little bit, but it's not really noticeable when it's sitting on your wrist.

AVAILABLE TO BUY

If you'd like me to make one of these for you, they're now up on the NODE shop. I'm unsure what the demand will be for these, so if it's high, there might a lead time of about 2 weeks or so before shipping while I make each one, so be aware. Check the shop for more details and updates.

CONCLUSION

Alright, so that is the watch mod. What do you think? How can it be improved?

I just wanted to mention that I have about 6 hardware projects in the works right now, so I haven't had time to do much else. I'm really excited by some of them, so stay tuned. As always, thanks for watching, and I look forward to your comments.
