SELF-DRIVING CARS

Tesla added the summon feature to their cars, allowing users to hail their vehicles using a phone app. The cars can automatically start up, open and close garage doors and pull up to their owners. Pretty awesome.

AUGMENTED REALITY?

I saw this link on the cyberpunk subreddit and it's so strange I had to mention it. Ami Yamato is a CGI character who Vlogs in real world settings. This juxtaposition is very interesting, if a little unsettling. It really reminds me of the Rei Toei AI pop star character from William Gibson's Bridge Trilogy.

LINUX

Version 4.4 of the Linux Kernel is now out. Some of the features include better graphics, additional options for Raspberry Pi's, and support for Intel's new Skylake chips.

TOR

Motherboard have written up a detailed guide for how to help speed up TOR by setting up a high bandwidth relay on a VPS. Every step is explained in depth and is pretty easy to follow.

VIRTUAL REALITY

The Google Cardboard SDKs for Unity and Android add support for spatial audio. Users now only need to add a pair of regular headphones to their cheap setup to experience immersive 3D audio.

Cloudhead Games released a video of a motion cap session for their upcoming VR game, “The Gallery: Call of the starseed”. What's interesting is the actor is inside the virtual world whilst he's acting his lines. Could this spell the end of the green screen?

BITCOIN / IOT

21 have been adding more how-to guides for their 21 bitcoin computer. There's lots of very cool stuff that is enabling an automated machine economy. They also have a program that lets you earn bitcoin for writing tutorials for them. Well worth a look.

VIDEOS

The first video this week is Unauthorized Access, a fun documentary looking at a group of young hackers in the early 90s.

The next is a cool hack by Frederick Vandenbosch, which allows you to add a 4 port USB hub directly to the Pi Zero, all while remaining inside it's small footprint.
